As we start to think about the onset of winter in Southern Alberta, our minds turn to our furnaces. And as we think about furnaces, we think “Is this old clunker going to get me through another year?”
Rebates are often offered by manufacturers, local companies, and even the government gets involved sometimes. We like to think of ourselves as Rebate experts. We understand that a decent discount on a new furnace can soften the financial blow. Not all rebates are created equal…
Manufacturer rebates: These are well advertised by the manufacturers, usually with a tag line from one or two local companies. “Save up to $1700…” Sounds great! Typically, however, those rebates amount to about 10% of the total spend. Which means you have to buy the very best of the very best to get those rebates. And then your dealer has to fill out some paperwork while you wait patiently for your rebate money to come in the mail. The rebates are real, and there is money to be saved.
Government rebates: We all love it when the government gives us some of our money back, don’t we? And when they offer rebate programs, it’s usually to encourage us to increase efficiency. Some of these programs can be quite lucrative for the homeowner, but those are usually short-lived, and there is usually a fairly stringent list of requirements to ensure you are eligible. A crossing of the i’s and dotting of the t’s, if you will. If history is a indicator, we can expect the next government rebate to save us around $500 on a high efficiency furnace. And there will be a limited number of these rebates available. We love these rebates, because it really does feel like getting some of our own tax dollars back. The biggest drawback to government-type rebates is the waiting. Waiting for an announcement. Waiting for processing. Waiting for that cheque to come in the mail.
Local Company Rebates: Most furnace repair and replacement companies are busy with new construction, so they wait for one of the above rebates to come to the surface. Every once in a while, a company will come along that steers clear of new construction and focuses exclusively on service and replacements. You can trust a company like that to understand rebates and offer a few of their own. Here at My Service Company, we’re getting kind of popular for offering big, REAL, deals. Most summers, we offer a free air conditioner with the purchase of a furnace. This fall, we’ve got another ‘rebate program’ you don’t want to miss. You see, instead of waiting for government or manufacturer rebates, we created our own. We struck a deal on furnaces and are passing huge savings along to our clients. Best part? No waiting. Get a price today, get the furnace installed by next week, and save the money immediately. No ‘pay now, get a cheque later” nonsense. And the discount extends across everything you buy. The furnace, of course, but you can add an air conditioner or a tankless water heater or thermostat or humidifier. Or all of the above. And the math says, you’ll save a ton, right away. No waiting.
